Programmes

Tertiary Education Programme

Qualifying beneficiaries are selected for the programme before the beginning of the academic year and their support includes tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation and living expenses.

The Trust provides support group sessions throughout the year and beneficiaries have access to the trustees at any time. Each student is required to participate in vacation employment during the bursary period to improve their understanding of the requirements of the job market and workplace.

Secondary School Support Programme

The Arup Education Trust (AET) and The Chosen NPO are partners in delivering the THUKEMA Secondary School Support Programme since 2014. THUKEMA is an abbreviation of the Sotho phrase, "Thuto ke Maatla" which means "Knowledge is Power".

The THUKEMA programme provides selected grade 11 and 12 learners from disadvantaged backgrounds extra lessons and support that is designed to improve their mathematics and science marks to enable them to gain university acceptance and pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professions. THUKEMA is also a pipeline for the tertiary education programme for learners who wish to pursue a career in the built environment.
